Neptazane Medication - Uses & Side Effects

METHAZOLAMIDE helps to treat glaucoma as well as certain kinds of tremors. It can also help to prevent altitude or mountain sickness. Generic methazolamide tablets are available. Methazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Carbonic anhydrase is a protein in the body. Methazolamide reduces the activity of this protein.

Neptazane Dosage

  • The usual dosage is 50 milligrams to 100 milligrams taken 2 to 3 times a day.

Uses of Neptazane

  • Neptazane, anhydrase is used to treat the eye condition called chronic open-angle glaucoma. This type of glaucoma is caused by a gradual blockage of the outflow of fluid in the front compartment of the eye over a period of years, causing a slow rise in pressure. It rarely occurs before the age of 40.
  • Neptazane is also used in the type called acute angle-closure glaucoma when pressure within the eye must be lowered before surgery.
  • Methazolamide is used to treat glaucoma. By inhibiting the actions of carbonic anhydrase, methazolamide reduces the amount of fluid produced in the eyes and therefore also reduces pressure.
  • Methazolamide may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
  • This medication reduces the rate of fluid formation in the inner eye resulting in reduced intraocular pressure.
