Gyne Lotrimin Medication - Uses & Side Effects

CLOTRIMAZOLE (Gyne-Lotrimin®, Gynix™, Mycelex-G®, Trivagizole®) is an antifungal agent used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Generic clotrimazole vaginal tablets and cream are available. Clotrimazole, the active ingredient in these medications, is used to treat fungal infections. In preparations for the skin, it is effective against ringworm, athlete's foot, and jock itch. In vaginal creams and tablets, it is used against vaginal yeast infections. In lozenge form, it is prescribed to treat oral yeast infections and to prevent them in people with weak immune systems.

Gyne Lotrimin Dosage

• Fill the applicator with the cream and insert 1 applicatorful into the vagina every day, preferably at bedtime. Repeat this procedure for 7 consecutive days.

Uses of Gyne Lotrimin

• This medication is used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Clotrimazole reduces vaginal burning, itching, and discharge that may occur with this condition. This medication is an azole antifungal. It works by stopping the growth of yeast (fungus) that causes the infection.
• Clotrimazole vaginal may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Gyne Lotrimin

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue using this medication. Side effects may include:

• Blistering
• burning
• hives
• irritated skin
• itching
• peeling
• reddened skin
• stinging
• swelling due to fluid retention

Warnings and precautions before taking Gyne Lotrimin:

• Contact your doctor if you experience increased skin irritations (such as redness, itching, burning, blistering, swelling, or oozing).
• Check with your doctor before using Gyne-Lotrimin on a child.
• In general, if your symptoms have not improved within 2 to 4 weeks of treatment, notify your doctor.
• Clotrimazole vaginal preparations should not be used if you have abdominal pain, fever, or a foul-smelling vaginal discharge. Contact your doctor immediately.
• This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

Drug Interaction :- Your healthcare professionals (e.g., doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: oral antibiotics, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), drugs that suppress the immune system (e.g., cyclosporine).

Overdose

An overdose of clotrimazole vaginal is unlikely to occur. If you do suspect that a much larger than normal dose has been used or that clotrimazole vaginal has been ingested, contact an emergency room or a poison control left.
