Hog-plum (Amra)
Its botanical name is Spondias mombin. It is also called yellow mombin, ornamental purplish green flowered tree of the cashew family (Anacardiaceae), native to tropical areas of the world. The hog plum are cultivated for its edible fruits called ciuela. The large stone in each fruit bears many spines and is difficult to separate from the pulp. The ripe fruit is chiefly used in salads and pickles. It is stomachic. It subsides pitta. The fruit juice is cooling and refreshing. It prevents sun-stroke, heat-stroke, vomiting and travel sickness.
