Acne Scars Treatment - Removal of Acne Scars - How To Get Rid of Acne Scars?

Definition

After treatment of acne sometimes the body does not clears up. it means the body is left with some signs of acne that is known as acne scars. Most cases of acne responds to treatment and clears up without leaving scars. Healed acne does leave scars in some people, however, and it is not easy to predict who will have scars after acne and who will not. Severe, inflamed, cystic acne always leaves scars after healing, but in some people even superficially inflamed acne can result in scarring.

Causes

In the case of acne scars, the injury is caused by our body's inflammatory response to sebum and bacteria lodged in our sebaceous follicles. The inflammation presents itself as smaller red bumps or papules, larger red bumps known as nodules, or pus filled lesions called pustules. Acne scars are often left behind after the acne lesion has healed and is more common if the acne has been irritated by touching or squeezing of the infected pustule. Picking and squeezing acne often causes the acne to become more deeply imbedded, resulting in much more severe acne scars.

Symptoms

Types of Acne Scars:

Acne scars result from two types of tissue response to the inflammation of acne: (1) increased tissue formation, and (2) loss of tissue.

  1. In increased tissue formation the scars caused are called keloids or hypertrophic scars. The word hypertrophy means extra enlargement and overgrowth. these are associated with excessive amounts of cell substance collagen. overproduction of collagen is a response of skin cells to injury. so, in this case the body skin have large fibrous masses.
  2. In loss of tissue scars are similar to scars that result from chicken pox—are more common than keloids and hypertrophic scars. Scars associated with loss of tissue are generally Ice-pick scars, Depressed fibrotic scars, Soft scars, superficial or deep, Atrophic macules, Follicular macular atrophy etc.

Treatment

  1. Water: It is considered to be the best natural method to treat the acne scars and heal them naturally. Water sheds the dead skin cells and makes the new skin to grow and hydrated. So, one should drink lots of water.
  2. Fruits and vegetables: Fresh fruits & vegetables helps in reducing the acne scars.
  3. A paste of sandalwood and rose water can be applied on the acne scars and wash it with cold water the next day.
  4. Dermabrasion: The dermatologic surgeon freezes the patient's skin or uses tumescent anesthesia and then removes or "abrades" the skin with a rotary instrument. The skin undergoes a "remodeling" process as it heals, resulting in a smoother and fresher appearance. View the Dermabrasion fact sheet for more information.
  5. Laser Therapy: By delivering short pulses of the laser beam, the dermatologic surgeon can smooth, sculpt and normalize the appearance of scars. The ultrapulsed carbon dioxide laser, the erbium YAG laser and the pulsed dye yellow light laser are most commonly used for treating scarring. View the Laser Applications fact sheet for more information.
